Sundance High School will be the host of this year’s Northeast District High School Music Clinic on November 18 and 19. The top music students from all of Northeast Wyoming will be descending upon our town and school to rehearse for two days and ultimately perform a concert at 3 p.m. in the SHS Gym.
There will be an additional 250 high school students at SHS for the two days. Schools involved are Tongue River, Big Horn, Sheridan, Buffalo, Arvada/Clearmont, Kaycee, Wright, Sage Valley (9th grade), Twin Spruce (9th grade), Gillette, Newcastle, Upton, Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance.
The Band will be directed by Dr. Mark Fenderson from MSU Billings and the choir by Dr. Nicole Lamartine from the University of Wyoming. The Honor Band and Choir students have been working on the music since mid-October and will rehearse all day Friday and Saturday from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
The music to be performed by the band will include a wide variety of top level concert band literature which includes a great march at the end. The honor choir will be tackling some extremely impressive music which includes pieces by Mozart and Mendelssohn. Of the six choral pieces to be performed, one is in German, two in Latin, one in Japanese, one in Romanian and one in English.
The SHS students in the Honor Choir are: Rebecka Dulaney, Brianna Bankenbush, Kara Mouat, Camille Cluff, Lane Carter, Derek Malo and Jeremy Adams. The SHS students in the Honor Band are: Cayla Adams and Tanayah Eschedor (clarinet III), Allison Kerkvliet (Alto Sax I) and Adam Croft. (Percussion)
The concert will be held in the SHS Gym to allow for extra seating and minimal equipment changes between groups. This is one concert that you won’t want to miss as Sundance will not host again for many years to come! The concert is free and open to all!
