The second annual Sundance 5K/10K Run For Your Life was held this past Saturday. Participants were greeted with a beautiful morning for their run down Main Street and up Cemetery Hill and through Mt. Moriah Cemetery before returning back to the starting point at the Sundance Community Church. The 10K race continued on from Mt. Moriah Cemetery through Sundance West and down Canyon Road leading back to the finish line.

This was a multi-generational event with ages spanning from eight to seventy among the runners and walkers. Medals were awarded to the overall winners in both the 5K and 10K race. Dylon Lincoln of Sundance was top male in the 5K with a time of 23:24 and Cayla Adams of

Kiddie Dash

Sundance was top female in the 5K with a time of 25:13. Niki Kubiak of Omaha, Nebraska, was top female in the 10K with a time of 47:51. A “Kiddie Dash” was held at the conclusion of the race for all the children who attended the event with the parents. T-shirts and mugs were given to all participants.

The Run For Your Life was first held in 2011 as the result of a challenge taken on by members of the church to complete a 5K race as the culmination of a 12-week bible study class called Run For God. The idea was to promote health – spiritual, mental, and physical – through a study and exercise program. Following the words of the Apostle Paul, the class strove to say, “I have finished the course, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).

The success of last year’s event led to adding the 10K component for this year’s event, and now plans are under way for the next year with September 7, 2013, being the date.

Crook County Medical Services provided much appreciated support during the race.

Top three finishers, left to right: Niki Kubiak, Cayla Adams and Dylon Lincoln.
