Signa Joan Gustafson was born in Gillette, Wyoming, November 22, 1929, the daughter of Alfred and Rose (William) Gustafson. On October 5, 1947, she married Patrick Shannon at Miles City, Montana. The couple lived at Rocky Point, Wyoming, until moving to Upton, Wyoming, in 1956. Here, she was involved with the V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary. Joan loved playing cards and was known to try stacking the odds in her favor when no one was looking. She also loved hunting and of course cooking for the bunch. She enjoyed her yard work but missed her husband Pat following his passing. Joan also enjoyed company and visiting with her family. Doing craft work was her way of staying busy.
Joan died unexpectedly Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle, Wyoming, following a brief illness.
Preceding her in death was her husband and one son Terry Shannon.
Surviving her are two sons, Donovan (wife Loretta) Shannon of Greybull, Wyoming, and Rick Shannon (wife Wrayann) of Sheridan, Wyoming. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 11, 2013, at Upton United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharee Johnson officiating.
Burial followed at Upton Greenwood Cemetery under direction of Worden Funeral Directors of Newcastle. The family would appreciate Memorial contributions to the Upton Ambulance Service.
