The Sundance-Hulett Cross Country team competed at the Wyoming State Cross Country Meet Saturday, October 22 in Douglas. The boys were led by Jace Walker of Sundance who finished 7th and earned All-State honors. Bret Penning took 15th, Shannon Morris placed 26th, Dylon Lincoln took 45th, and Dalton Cross came in 51st.
In the Girls Division, Cayla Adams of Sundance placed 5th.
“Before the race we talked about getting out hard at the start and putting ourselves in a position to place well.” Sundance coach Nick Marty said of the race strategy. “In both the boys and girls races, we took the lead off the line and ran for first. Cayla held a lead for nearly a mile in her first state cross country meet. In the boys division Dylon, Shannon, and Jace all ran to the front and traded the lead between themselves before anyone else really got into the race. That was what we asked them to do. It really showed on Saturday how hard these kids have worked all year and how they have pushed past what they thought they could do and accomplished what we as coaches could see their potential was.”
