The Upton-Sundance Patriot football team opened the 2013 season with bang Friday night by clobbering the Moorcroft Wolves 40-6 under the lights in Upton.
Upton’s Jett Materi led the offensive onslaught with 137 rushing yards, three touchdowns and a pair of 2-point conversions. Sundance senior Caleb Bush racked up 106 rushing yards, one touchdown and a 2-point conversion while freshman Hunter Woodard piled up 40 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Rourke McPeters, Lane Dodd, Wyatt Burr and Davis Butts led the combined squad which held the Wolves scoreless until the final minute of the contest. Lane Carter and Ben Stoddard each grabbed an interception to end Moorcroft drives.
Next up for the Patriots is an away game against Rocky Mountain High School, for the inaugural contest on their newly-lighted field. Kickoff is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. Rocky Mountain comes in with 1-0 record as well after topping Tongue River 35-0 last week.
