The Upton –Sundance Patriots continued their winning ways on Friday with a big win over Rocky Mountain in Cowley on Friday night.
Friday’s contest was expected to be a challenge for both teams, each coming into the game with a 1-0 record, and it certainly lived up to its billing. Both teams put points on the board early but the Patriots held an 8-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter thanks to a 13 yard touchdown run from Jett Materi followed by a two-point conversion carried in by Caleb Bush. The Patriots struck again in the second quarter with Materi once again crossing the stripe from 6 yards out. Ben Stoddard then found Hunter Woodard for the two-point conversion, bringing the score to 16-6 at half. The second half proved to be a defensive struggle as neither team was able to put points on the board, leaving the final score untouched at 16-6.
Roarke McPeters and Lane Carter led another impressive Patriot defensive performance with Skyler Wagaman, Jet Materi, Trace Steele and Davis Butts each contributing solid efforts.
Materi led the Patriot’s rushing corps with 215 yards on the ground while Bush also had a good night, contributing 81 yards. Stoddard completed 5 passes for 79 yards. Woodard led the receiving stats with 69 yards on 4 catches. Bush had one reception for 6 yards and Wagaman finished with 1 for 4 yards.
The Patriots have an open week this week but will be back in action on September 27 for Homecoming here in Sundance against the Burlington Huskies. Kickoff time is 2 p.m.
