Former detention officer faces sexual assault charge
The Sundance High School Band is back from Orlando, FL where they performed and competed in a national festival called “Orlandofest”. There were over 850 student musicians at the festival that performed over the course of two days. There were choirs, show choirs, orchestras and bands. There were groups from Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Puerto Rico, Florida and Wyoming.
The performances were held in Oakridge High School Auditorium in Orlando. The Sundance students were able to listen to an excellent middle school band from Alabama before heading in to warm themselves. The SHS Band had their best performance yet and in that amazing auditorium, many of the chaperons said they had goose bumps.
The SHS Jazz Band received an excellent rating and also received the Gold in open class. There were however, no other Jazz Bands in the competition.
The SHS Concert Band on the other hand, did have competition in Class A which at the national level is for schools with up to 500 students enrolled. SHS enrollment is 110 students. In the Class A Concert Band competition the Bronze went to a band from Texas, the Silver trophy to a band from Alabama and the Gold trophy went to the Sundance High School Concert Band.
This one in a lifetime experience would not be possible without the support of the hard working band parent officers, parents and the entire community of Sundance along with our chaperons and bus drivers who endured late nights and early mornings. Congrats to the students who represented Sundance so well!
