Mick Dowdy, Sr., 82, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away on July 14, 2013, with his wife of 60 years by his side.
Mick was born July 3, 1931, in Hudson, Colorado, to Will and Ada Dowdy, 10th of 12 children. On September 14, 1952, he married Jane Ames in Sundance, Wyoming. Mick served in the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1958. Mick went to work at Baroid in Osage, Wyoming, in 1976. The company transferred him to Colony, Wyoming. He retired in 1993. Mick and Jane enjoyed going to Deadwood, fishing and spending time with family. Mick was an avid collector of antique bottles and insulators.
Mick is survived by his wife, Jane of Spearfish; children, Mick (Heidi) Dowdy of Upton, Wyoming, Susan (Merv) Mills of Wright, Wyoming, Lisa (Lonnie) Koranda of Camp Crook, South Dakota, and Jeff Dowdy of Spearfish; grandchildren, Jesse (Brian) McColley, Sonya (Chris) Duvall, JC Dowdy, Crystal (Rob) Davis, Luke (Genetha) Dowdy, Jere Updike, Larry Updike, Brianna (Jessie) Thelander, Erik Klein, Nick (Katie) Mills and Avery (Twila) Mills; brothers, Bill, Jim, Pat and a sister, Lola; also numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack, Don, Jerry, Scott; sisters, Ruth, Faye, Shirley and a grandson, Alfred Updike.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, July 18, 2013, at the Upton Greenwood Cemetery. A celebration of his life will follow at the Upton Senior Center. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to St. James Lutheran Church of Belle Fourche and Northern Hills Training Center.
