Letters to the Editor – Aug. 15

Unless you have been there, you have no idea what an once in a lifetime honor it is to be selected by the Crook County Fair Board to be Parade Marshalls. We had looked forward to the parade for months. It was such a fun trip, watching the kids, big and small picking up candy, waving, calling our hi’s and well wishes. What warm wonderful people we have in this community and Crook County.

The glory and happiness of all this was taken away by one stupid, careless mistake with the article and picture on the front page of the Sundance Times. It was so unnecessary. There were signs on both sides of the buggy, an announcer across the street introducing the parade entries, an article in the fair book which came out months ago and we should have been recognized by everyone on the Times staff. What would be the reason we were riding in Chipper’s buggy, throwing candy and waving to the parade watchers?

The Crook County Rodeo Royalty Association is a group that helps to promote Crook County, it’s heritage and it’s way of life. We as a committee are always on the lookout for new ways to get our girls involved in activities and promote Crook County. We just wrapped up the new crowning and are heading into a new year with new royalty. We now also have a contract that the contestants and parents must sign, so everyone knows what is expected of them up front at the beginning and throughout the year.
The people of this area, including Gillette, Belle Fourche, Spearfish are ever so generous when we ask them if they are interested as a sponsor, thus the young ladies receive numerous gifts, the Queen also received a saddle, they are required to complete the necessary paperwork etc. required by the committee, at the end of her term she receives a scholarship to the college of her choice. We would like to recognize the following contributors of this year’s contest, and encourage all to stop in and give these sponsors your business. As you can see the list is quite large.
