The new Sundance Elementary School building is nearing completion on schedule, just in time for the new school year to begin. Facilities Manager Tom Necklason is confident that the doors will open as expected for the students to occupy their new school in August.
“We were blessed with the fire marshal reviewing the building and have gotten the go ahead to start moving into it,” he says.
“We are planning on starting August 1 to move items from the old school to the new one.”
Along with the items being moved over from the old school will be brand new furniture in many of the rooms. The supplier for the furniture has already begun delivering these items to the site and is setting them up in the classrooms and offices.
All that remains, Necklason says, are the finishing touches.
“They are completing the carpeting of the hallways and doing some miscellaneous trimming out of items,” he says.
“The asphalt crew came through for us and got the paving done before fair as promised.”
Throughout the rest of the building, most of the other trades have completed the items necessary and have moved on to other jobs, Necklason continues.
“As it looks now, we are seeing that everything is going to be ready for the August 18 school opening,” he says.
