Joann Mary Williams, 68, Newell, South Dakota, died on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Funeral Services were held at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, South Dakota, on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, with Pastor Henrique Fleming officiating. Burial followed at Vale Cemetery.
Joann was born in Faulkton, South Dakota, on February 11, 1944, to Harold and Marie Rieker. She grew up and graduated from high school in Casper, Wyoming. After high school, she attended Casper Community College for a short time, and worked as a waitress as well as various other jobs. She married Larry Williams on February 28, 1964, in Casper. Together they lived in various places, spending 16 years in Sundance, Wyoming, and eventually moving to Deadwood, South Dakota, where Joann worked at many of the main street casinos as a gaming cashier for many years. Two years ago, she retired from Buffalo Bill Cody’s due to her battle with cancer.
Joann was very active in her family and loved each and every one of them. She was constantly seen at all of her grandchildren’s activities. She was strong and hard working, and always had a smile on her face. She liked to travel, and it seemed that anywhere she went, she always knew everybody. She was a good cook, and liked to bake for her family, as well as fishing and gardening.
Joann is survived by her husband, Larry, Newell; parents, Harold and Marie Rieker, Spearfish; daughter, Laraya (Jeff) Royer, Sturgis; sons, Kenneth (Kristi) Williams, Newell, and Kevin (Patty) Williams, Whitewood; brothers, Larry John (Janie) Rieker, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Randy (Sue) Rieker, Casper; and her grandchildren, Steven and Shawna Royer, Christoper, Tonisha, Daniel, Colter, and Dustin Williams.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Linda Rose Walker, and her grandson, Weston Williams.
A memorial has been set up for the college education of her grandchildren.
