Coach Julie Cross’s Lady Bulldogs finished a great state track meet author a fourth place finish as all six girls who qualified for the state meet medaled.
The Sundance senior track girls finished their SHS careers in stellar fashion as all four girl placed in multiple events on their way to the fourth place trophy. Cayla Adams placed third in the 3200, fourth in the 1600, seventh in the 800, and also ran on the 3200 relay that placed 6th. Krista Drentlaw, Sheyenne Halstengard, and Taitlyn Bethea completed the 3200 relay. Krista Drentlaw placed third in the 800. Kelsie Loken finished second in both the shot put and the discus, and Kacie O’Connor placed third in the shot put and won the discus for the third year in a row. She also was Best of the Best, which is given to the top throw at the state meet, for the third year in a row.
O’Connor and Loken’s 1-2 finish in the discus finished a decade of dominance for the Lady Bulldogs as Samantha Whalen, Chantelle D’Spain, Ashlee Humphrey, Kelly O’Connor(2),Sabrina Whalen and Kacie O’Connor(3) have combined to win nine of the last ten 2A girls discus titles, to go along with four seconds and numerous other placers.
Lane Carter finished fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put and Jace Walker finished third in the 3200 and seventh in the 1600. Cort Ingalls and Jonas Pridegon were qualifiers for the Bulldogs who didn’t place.
Coach Gonzales summed up the track coaches by saying what a pleasure it has been to have worked with this senior class and that they will be sorely missed.
