Aladdin native, Katie Whalen, has been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to embark on a study abroad trip to Alaska. This experience is offered through Chadron State College and will include AG Art, and FCs department students. With the wide variety of interests they will experience many different sights, areas, and people; including a Musk Ox Farm, Earthquake Park and various museums. The highlight of the trip will be three days in Anchorage and Willow, Alaska to be dog handlers in the world-famous Iditarod Race. Here Whalen will be allowed to work with two to three dogsled teams at the ceremonial as well as the official start of the race.
She will be away from February 29 to March 9 and will gain many new experiences and memories along the way. Currently, the CSC AG Club is raffling off a pig as part of a fund raiser for this trip. Also, a pie social will be held Thursday, January 5 as another fund raiser by donation. Katie would like to invite you all to come and enjoy some pie at Cindy B’s Aladdin Cafe from 2-4 p.m. and to wish her luck on this great journey. Tickets for the hog raffle will also be available or call 307-896-2397 with questions, comments, or concerns.
