Fremont G. Forsberg, 93, formerly of Watertown, South Dakota, died June 24, 2012, in Ft. Myers, Florida. Two celebrations of his life are planned: first at the Grand Hall at Grande Court Senior Living, 3:33 p.m., July 12, Fort Myers and one at Joy Ranch, at 3:33 p.m., August 18, 2012, in Watertown. Watertown services will be officiated by long time family friend Pastor Bob Waite.
Fremont was born February 23, 1919, on a farm near Cokato, Minnesota, the son of Alvin and Lavinia (Nelson) Forsberg. He married Lila Sarempa in 1942. She passed away in 1997. He married Joyce Cassem in 2000 making their home in Sebring, Florida, until 2007, when they moved to Ft. Myers to be closer to family.
Fremont and Lila moved from Minnesota to Watertown in 1946 purchasing Watertown Monument Works; then a one man operation. He built the Company into the world’s largest retail manufacturer with over 100 plant/office employees with factories in two states. He set up over 400 sales representatives with service in eight states. Watertown Monument Works was known for a high quality product throughout the industry.
Fremont was active in civic affairs in Watertown, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Elks and others. His greatest interest was in working to build the Grace Lutheran Church Foundation, the education unit and the parking lots. He is also a supporter of Lutherans of South Dakota’s Joy Ranch.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lila; and two brothers Devore and Robert. He is survived by his wife Joyce; two sons, Dexter (Dardis) and Gregg (Karen); five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
