Elizabeth A. “Betty” Sherrard, 93, passed away on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, after a brief illness, in Phoenix, Arizona Hospice Care. Born April 12, 1919 to Solomon and Dorothy (White) Ingram in New Haven, Wyoming, she graduated in 1937 from Sundance High School.
She married Orman C. “Rip” Nelson on September 18, 1939 and to this union two daughters were born. He preceded her in death in April, 1959.
She married Leonard Sherrard in January, 1963 and moved to the Sherrard ranch near Devils Tower. Betty was an excellent cook and expert seamstress and also enjoyed knitting and reading. In her later years she was able to travel extensively to visit family and friends.
She will be sadly missed by her loving family: sister Dorothy Kallenberger of Oregon; daughters Sandra (Jerry) Moore of Indiana and Betty Jane Byrne of Devils Tower; grandsons Marty (Lisa) Byrne and Michael (Kelly) Byrne of Arizona; great-grandchildren Andrew, Jessica and Dawson; as well as several devoted nieces and nephews, extended family, and many close friends mourn her passing.
She was preceded in death by husband Leonard; sister Ellen Jane Soliday; brothers-in-law Frank Soliday and Walt Kallenberger; son-in-law James A. “Jim” Byrne.
Arrangements were handled by Wickenburg Funeral Home and Crematory in Arizona and Kincaid Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, South Dakota. A Graveside Memorial Services took place at Bear Butte Cemetery, Sturgis, attended by family and friends.
