The Sundance 8th grade volleyball team kept their bid for an undefeated season intact this weekend by winning the Gillette A Volleyball Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs went into the tournament with a 13-0 record. The first team the Bulldogs faced was Buffalo, and they came away with a 21-13, 21-9 victory. Maddy Stoddard had a tremendous game serving for the Lady Bulldogs as she scored 12 pts. Next the girls faced the home team Twin Spruce A Eagles. After a close 21-17 game, they dominated the second game by a score of 21-7. In the championship match Sundance would face a familiar foe in the Douglas Bearcats. The girls had met the Bearcats twice in tough matches in the spring AAU volleyball season, with the Bearcats wining both times in 3 sets. This time the Lady Bulldogs came out on top 21-18, 23-21. Setters and backside hitters Jaslyn Seeley and Molly O’Connor led the team with numerous assists. Middle hitter Teila McInerney, and middle and backside hitters Haley Marchant and Katie Rathbun all hit, blocked, and played the net very well all tournament. Outside hitters Maddy Stoddard and Signe Simpson were consistent all tournament and both played excellent defense. Rachel Kuhl, who played in her first game of the season, came off the bench and provided great play at crucial times during the games. The team served and played defense extremely well throughout the tournament. The Lady Bulldogs are committed to playing just as tough through the remainder of their season, and look forward to hosting the district tournament on October 12.
