Lois was born on July 23, 1921, in Sundance to Jim and Amalia Bowers. She grew up in Sundance and graduated from the Sundance High school in 1939.
She attended the Black Hills Teacher’s College in Spearfish, South Dakota and received her teaching degree. Following her schooling she landed her first teaching job in Upton, Wyoming and taught all the primary grades. Lois met her sweetheart, JW Kennedy at a local dance and they were married on May 23, 1943. Not long after being married, JW was drafted to serve in World War II. Lois kept herself busy teaching at several schools while her husband was away. They were happily reunited in 1946, not to be separated again until JW passed away in 2012. Lois and JW adopted their son, Harold in 1960 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother.
In the mid 1990s, JW and Lois took a rest from the ranching life and moved into Sundance. They enjoyed getting to know their neighbors and spent their time around family and friends. Lois was a talented quilter, cook and gardener and was known as a caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Lois is survived by her grandson, Ben Kennedy (Morgan) of Lander, Wyoming; a sister, Margret White of Sundance along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amalia and Jim Bowers; sister, Helen Ellard; brother, James Bowers; husband, JW Kennedy and son, Harold Kennedy.
