The Crook County Historical Society met for the regular monthly meeting on May 13, 2014, in the Sundance State Bank Meeting Room. Members present were Don Stoner, Ellen Griffis, Joe and Zona Unruh, John and Ginger Shoffstall and Peggy Symonds.
Before the meeting Glen and Jackie Wyatt gave a very detailed and informative presentation on the Vore Buffalo Jump. Members had a lot of questions during and after the program that Glen and Jackie answered. The Buffalo Jump tells many historical facts that not everyone was aware of. It was a great program and the society expressed appreciation to the Wyatts for their time and dedication to the historical site.
President Don Stoner called the meeting to order at 11:30 a.m. The minutes of the April meeting were read by Secretary Peggy Symonds. Zona moved to approve the minutes as read, Ellen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Treasurer Rod Knutson gave the treasures report. He had written a check for $90 to pay state and local memberships. A check for $32 to Don for one-year’s rent on the post office box. This leaves a balance of $1922.16 in the account.
Don talked about TREC which will be held in Jackson on June 20-22, 2014. No one from the local society will be able to attend.
Storage for the books was discussed. Rod said he would soon have a place where the books could be stored. Ginger suggested leaving the books in the rented storage through the summer. A 30-day notice to vacate a storage unit is required. Ginger made her suggestion into a motion, Ellen seconded. Motion carried.
The fence project at the Custer Gravesite was discussed. John suggested waiting until July to paint the fence and clean the gravesite. All members were in agreement.
Peggy volunteered to invite a guest speaker to the June meeting. The next meeting of the society will be June 10, 2014, in the Sundance State Bank Meeting Room at 11 a.m. Zona moved to adjourn the meeting at 12:35 p.m. Ginger seconded the motion. Motion carried.
