Crook County Historical Society – Jan. 12

The Crook County Historical Society met at 1:30 p.m. on January 12, 2016 at the Sundance State Bank Meeting Room. Members in attendance were President Don Stoner, Treasurer Rod Knudson, Secretary Peggy Symonds and members Jim Oster, Sharon Oster, Betty Breen, Melissa Holso, Ellen Griffis, Barbara Byrne, Larry Byrne, Ginger Shoffstall and John Shoffstall.

Larry led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Peggy read the minutes of the December 2015 meeting. Larry moved to accept the minutes as read, John seconded the motion. Motion Carried.

Treasurer Rod gave the treasurers report. He reported that he had paid the state membership. Rod had received an e-mail from Pam Thompson stating that they intended to join the society. We have enough paid members to hold our 301C status. This is a state society rule, not an IRS rule. Melissa reported that she had made a consignment form for putting the historical books at various locations to sell. Rod will send a member spread sheet to Linda Fabian with contact information. Rod gave the book committee report. Larry will talk to someone from the Visitor Center. Ginger suggested talking to Steve Crisp. Ginger moved and Ellen seconded motion to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion passed.

As new business, activities for the society were discussed. Barbara reminded the group about the Teddy Roosevelt program at Sundance High School Auditorium. Rod will call State about available speakers. Several ideas were discussed for activities. Barbara and Larry talked about a series that they had been watching on Netflix. For the program at the February meeting, John and Ginger will bring some discs of historical facts and events that happened during the depression years. Larry and Barbara will bring a TV.

Don adjourned the meeting at 2:25 p.m. and the group enjoyed refreshments and visiting.
