City council to appoint new member

Council hopes to have Goodson replacement in place next month

By Sarah Pridgeon

Following the announcement of Council Member Larry Goodson’s resignation at this month’s regular meeting of the City Council, Mayor Paul Brooks and the remaining council members have invited anyone with in interest in filling the position to step forward.

Interested parties will need to submit a letter of intent to City Hall, along with a resume. Members of the council will conduct interviews and make their recommendations to the mayor, then vote as a body to choose Goodson’s replacement. It’s hoped that the new council member will be appointed at the next regular meeting of the council, says City Treasurer Kathy Lenz.

The new council member will then be required to run for a two-year term in the next election, alongside Council Members April Gill and Ken Denzin, who are both running for four-year terms. Election register with City Hall begins in May, with the preliminaries scheduled for August and final election for November.
