Charlotte was born on May 21, 1922, the eldest of seven children to Chester and Pearl (McCone) Lamb in St. Edwards, Nebraska. She graduated from Albion High School in Nebraska. After her mother passed away the family moved to Wyoming, homesteading near Sundance. She and her sister, Iva Imogene, went to Spearfish Normal Teaching College to obtain their teaching certificates. She taught for several years in one room school houses in the area. Her last teaching job was in Osage, Wyoming.
She married Robert LeRoy Engstrom on February 3, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Newcastle, with their attendants being Carl and Ann Larson of Osage. To this union three children were born, Viola, Douglas and Don.
When Don was about a year old, she decided it was time to learn to drive. After learning to drive she took on a new job selling Avon beauty products in Newcastle. She was an excellent salesperson. She went on to sell Tupperware, jewelry, vacuum sweepers, advertising and about anything else you could imagine.
In 1966, the family moved to Gillette. From the time she was a child she liked to draw and so she took some lessons in painting which she found out she loved it. She painted with oils, acrylic’s and did china painting. When selling advertising she would often supply the artwork featuring local buildings, animals and industries. She submitted poetry to poetry contests and not only won, but some were published. She was fascinated with family genealogy and had traced the family back several generations. She enjoyed making contact with new found relatives. She was instrumental in the writing and development of several books on Wyoming history. She was a very active 30+ year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gillette, serving as a Deacon and was a very faithful prayer warrior.
