Carole D. Kipp – 1943-2012

Carole Diane (Westbrook) Kipp, 68, passed away on February 12, 2012, in Longview, Washington, after a long illness.

She was born to Curtis S. and Joyce I. (Selgeby) Westbrook in Albany, Oregon, on December 8, 1943. She and E. Michael Kipp were married in Albany, Oregon on June 17, 1967.

Carole graduated from Albany Union High School in 1962 and from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1966. After graduating from Oregon State University she taught at Newport Hills Elementary school in Bellevue, Washington. After a break to raise a family she returned to teaching and taught special education and early elementary grades in Longview, Washington public schools until her retirement. She loved teaching and devoted herself to the education of every child.

She enjoyed travel with her husband Mike and they made several trips to Europe as well as many extended car trips in America. Carole had a real love of collecting and knowledge of antique dolls and bears. She also enjoyed tending to the flowers in her yard, especially lilacs and roses. Camping, backpacking and hiking were also enjoyed. She was a lifelong avid reader.

While growing up in Albany she was active in Girl Scouts, National Junior Honor Society, and the International Order of Rainbow for girls. While at Oregon State University she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

Carole was a member of the Longview Community Church and of the Westminster United Presbyterian Church in Albany while she lived there.

She loved and enjoyed her family. She was very proud of them. One of the great joys of her life was the birth of her two grandsons. She was a loving, caring daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and wife. She will be deeply missed.

Carole is survived by her husband, E. Michael, of Longview; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis E. and Alexis P. (Witt) Kipp, and a daughter and son-in-law, Jay F. and Stephanie M. McLain and their two sons. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Deeanne (Williams) Westbrook, a step-mother, Alice (Rice) Westbrook and many uncles, nephews, and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Jerald Joseph and Curtis Ladd Westbrook.

A memorial service was held Friday, February 17, 2012, at the United Presbyterian Church, Albany, Oregon. Private interment was at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, February 18, 2012, in Longview.
