Petersen 2Calvin DeRoyce Petersen, 90, long time Upton, Wyoming, resident passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013, at his home.

Calvin was born on August 27, 1923, to Peter and Francis (Baker) Petersen of Moorcroft, Wyoming. He attended school in Moorcroft, where he graduated in 1941. He married Norma June Marie Nicolen on October 31, 1943, in Gillette, Wyoming. Calvin served a one year term in the army and after his discharge in 1946 the couple moved to Upton to manage Petersen Lumber and Grain Inc. and raise their family. After his retirement from the Upton lumber yard Cal worked at the family’s lumber yards in Moorcroft and Sundance, Wyoming. Cal was active in many community activities during his life including the fire department, chamber, school board, golf course, Masons, FVW, American Legion, and served as mayor for one term. He was an avid supporter of the school activities, and enjoyed attending sporting events, plays, concerts and programs for his children, grandchildren, and later attending just to support the boys and girls.

Cal was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and great-granddaughter.

He will be sadly missed by his family, son, Dennis and his wife, Connie Petersen of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughters, Joni, her husband, Jim Greer of Casper, Wyoming, Roni and husband Dwane Canfield of Upton; their families; his brother, Raymond of Moorcroft; his sister, Louise Petersen of Redlands, California; family and friends.

Memorial services will be held in on Friday, January 3, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Boal Auditorium in Upton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upton Fire Department and EMS service.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel of Sundance.
