Brenda Marie Brookey, 51, passed away February 23, 2014 at Matsu Regional Medical Center in Palmer, Alaska. Born in Sturgis, South Dakota, on February 4, 1963, to Ted and Clara Blakeman, Brenda has been a resident of Alaska since July of 1996. Brenda was a lifelong Member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Brenda enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling and playing with her grandkids. She was always smiling and had a fantastic sense of humor. She touched so many lives and will be loved and missed by all.
She is Survived by her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Rudy Brookey; children, Erik Blakeman, Tony and Melissa Brookey, Shelby and Arliss Wirtanen, Ted Brookey, along with twelve grandchildren; siblings, Rod and Mary Blakeman, Fred and Julie Blakeman, Jeff and Tina Blakeman, Ben and Sandy Blakeman, Daryl and Nicci Blakeman, Wanda Blakeman and Bill Hoyer, Minnie and Stan Horning, Kelly and Tonia Blakeman, Lila and Craig Chandler as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Agnes Brookey, with her children, Mary Pender, Susan Garcia, Justine Valdez and Janet Berry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ted and Clara Blakeman; and brother, Ronald Blakeman
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church at 9405 E Terry Street, Palmer, Alaska. Following the service the internment will be held at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Legacy Funeral Homes Kehl’s Palmer Mortuary.
