He was born September 26, 1919, in Loveland, Colorado, the fourth son of Sim Carroll and Nellie Edith (Nisley) Edwards. His first year was spent on a ranch near Boyes, Montana. In 1920 the family moved to Spearfish, South Dakota, where Allan lived and went to school until 1937 when he graduated from Spearfish High School. Allan then went into partnership with his older brother, Noel, on a ranch ten miles south of Sundance.
On June 1, 1941, Allan married (Alpha) Jane Dorsett and they lived and raised their family on the ranch. In 1967 they sold the ranch and moved to Sundance where Allan worked for the City of Sundance as General Commissioner for ten years; Tracy Motors for three years; and then Crook County as a heavy equipment operator until his retirement in 1986. Allan and Jane continued to live in Sundance in the summers and Lake Havasu City, Arizona, in the winters for fifteen years. In 2003 they moved to Chandler, Arizona, permanently to be close to family.
While at the ranch and in Sundance Allan belonged to the Wyoming Wool Growers Association; served on the Predatory Animal Board; Crook County Fair Board; Crook County School Board where he was instrumental in getting country schools consolidated to one local grade and high school; and Sundance City Council. He was also a 50 year member of the Sundance Lodge #9 A.F.&A.M., a past Master of the lodge and secretary for 22 years. He was a Past Associate Guardian of Jobs Daughters Bethel #43, and Past Associate Grand Guardian of Wyoming Jobs Daughters.
Allan is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jane; daughters, Janice (Danny) Hopson and Linda Elder; grandsons, Paul Sipe and Christopher (Andrea) Sipe; two great grandchildren, Regann and Nolan Sipe; pro-tem son, Doug (Lee) Hughes; nephews, Chuck, Norm, John and Carl Edwards and David Dorsett; and nieces, Diane Boyer and Delores Broadway.
Allan was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lynne Carole; his parents; and his brothers, Frank, Estes, and Noel.
