The Crook County Historical Society met on June 10, 2014, at the Sundance State Bank Meeting Room. President Don Stoner called the meeting to order at 11:10 a.m. Members present were Don Stoner, Rod Knudson, Joe and Zona Unruh, Ellen Griffis, John and Ginger Shoffstall and Peggy Symonds.
The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved with corrections. Rod Knudson’s name was omitted from the membership and was also misspelled.
The treasurer Rod reported that there was no change in the treasurer’s report since the May meeting. Ginger moved and Joe seconded the motion to accept the treasurer’s report as given.
Peggy read a letter that President Don had received from the State Historical Society inquiring about oral histories of families in Crook County. Much of this history is stored at the Museums in Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance. Rod told about families who passed through Hulett and inquired about families. They were asked to sign the book at the museum.
Zona told us about the Chuck Wagon Feed that the Library Foundation is taking part in on the 19th of July at the Hadley Ranch. It was suggested that the Crook County book may sell at this event and at Crook County Fair and Biker Wednesday in Sundance.
Rod told about the presentation on Bill Hickok that was held in Hulett. He told us about Hickok’s gun, an 1860 .44 six-shooter that was part of the display.
As there was no guest speaker, the members spent considerable time discussing family history, trips to Deadwood and other historical events and stories.
The next meeting will be July 8, 2014, at the Sundance State Bank Meeting Room at 11 a.m.
