In December of 1941 he was united in marriage to Veryl Heetland in Broadus, Montana. Following their marriage Ernest and Veryl lived at the ranch where Ernest worked until he reached the age of 92. He also had a great sense of humor, and was a good husband and father.
Ernest is survived by his son, Kendall Leitner of Belle Fourche; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and twin sisters, Ruth Patton and LaRue Ice.
